eBay launches iPhone 2.1 App enabling Australian consumers to buy and sell instantly

eBay, a leader in mobile commerce and the world’s largest online marketplace, has released an updated version of its main iPhone application in Australia, which now includes selling functionality, alongside RedLaser barcode scanning technology.

The updated eBay iPhone app now enables users to:

  • List items instantly: Sellers can now list an item on eBay with pictures taken on their iPhone in 60 seconds or less, plus they can use RedLaser barcode scanning technology to pre-fill information in certain categories.
  • Sell One Like This: If a user is listing a similar item to one already sold or selling on eBay, they can simply use eBay’s “Sell One Like This” feature to create a listing that is automatically populated with category and item condition information.

eBay spokesperson Jenny Thomas explains: “During 2010, there was a rapid increase in the number of people using their mobile phones to shop, with 5-10% of Australian iPhone owners logging into their eBay app every day. Now with selling functionality, users will easily be able to sell an item on eBay in order to fund the purchase of their next great bargain!”

Since the launch of its first mobile application in 2008, the eBay iPhone app has been downloaded more than 30 million times and is now available in 190 countries. Nearly 25% of Australians use their mobile phone to shop[1] and the growth of eBay sales through mobile devices in Australia is among the fastest in the world.

Additional key features and alerts incorporated into the eBay iPhone 2.1 App include:

  • My eBay ‘Quick View’: provides instant watching, buying and selling updates
  • Instant access to the Big Deal: provides instant access to the latest great deals on eBay.com.au
  • Saved Searches: allows users to create, update and customise saved searches while on the go
  • Greater Selections: users can now select variations of one item, such as different sizes or colours
  • Easy Refresh: simple and immediate refresh of any screen, by sliding downwards
  • Push Alerts: customised to notify users when an item is ending and when they’ve been outbid
  • Reminders: act as a to-do list for active purchases and sales
